Sep-16-04  sneaky pete: If 21... Kxd7 22.Bxe6+ .. mates. Nice attack, I like 17.Rd5 .., white must have seen most of what was to follow.
Nov-19-04  marekg248: This game is fantastic. It's annotated here http://www.chesspro.ru/games/game2.... It's russian site, but notation is english.
Nov-19-04  Poisonpawns: Great exploitation of the open files by Sutovsky
Nov-19-04  AdrianP: 18 exd5?? Nd6+ 19 Kd8 Nxf7! is amusing - White can come back for the queen later.
Oct-09-17  Howard: This game was very heavily analyzed in NIC 2004 #7.

plang: 7..d6 is a main line in the Kan Sicilian; Kunte's 7..b5?! is like waiving a red flag to a bull. Four months earlier at St Petersburg Najer had played 10 exf against Landa and White had gone on to win; 10 Nxb5 was new and seems to be a clear improvement. White would still have had a strong attack had he castled kingside with Black perhaps having less counterplay. 17 Nc7+..Kd8 18 Bxe6..Ne5! would have favored Black. Not 21..Kxd7? 22 Bxe6+..fxe 23 Qxe6+..Kd8 24 Qxg8+..Kd7 25 Qe8#. Extended analysis after the game showed that Black could have drawn; the main line was 22..Re5! 23 Bxe5..fxe6 24 Rxe7..Nxe7 25 Bd6..Qxb3 26 Nxe6..Rxg2 27 Qa6+..Qb7 28 Qxb7+..Kxb7 29 Bxe7..Rxh2 30 f4..h5 31 Bxf6..h4.
