Sep-15-04  Reisswolf: Man, this is a heck of a game! Great to see top level grandmasters fighting it out. Good win for the young Indian grandmaster.

tamar: It's one astounding roller-coaster ride for White's King after 16...Rd1+ 17 Ke2! He ends up on c6 but completely safe.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Two simultaneous wild attacks at the same time! This was fun. Nisipeanu deserves credit for his fighting spirit--it's a shame one of these guys had to lose.
Mar-15-05  Whitehat1963: Another great game from the player of the day!
Oct-28-05  Gantastic: Stenitz would be proud of Harikrishna's active king holding down the fort.
Oct-28-05  n30: can someome (who knows how to play chess ;) explain why Pentala can't take that castle 17 KxR?
Oct-28-05  Pawsome: <n30> If 18. KxR QxN 19. R-R1 Q-B6ch followed by QxrR or 18. Kxd1 Qf2 19. Rh1 Qf3 + (+ -) as they say in algebraic.
Oct-28-05  Pawsome: Wonderful chess! Harikrishna is presently leading the pack in the Essent tourney where he laid a beating on Sokolov, the latter's first loss in long time. This guy will be a World Championship contender before to long.
Dec-28-05  like a GM: Does f6 (f3 for white) create a weakness as a rule? Does it sometimes help at controlling the center?

PS: great game by Hari!

May-03-06  McCool: What about 33. ... ♕e6+ 34. ♔d4 ♘f3+ 35. ♔c3 ♘xg1 36. ♕xg1.
Mar-20-08  mistreaver: what if 21 Rxg4
Mar-20-08  computer chess guy: <what if 21. Rxg4> After .. Bxg4 22. hxg4 Qxg4+ 23. Kf2 the position is only even. 21. Bg2 is much better.
Jul-27-08  Manic: <McCool> I think after 33...Qe6+ 34.Kd4 Nf3+ 35.Kc3 Nxg1 36.Qxa7+ and then 37.Qxg1 and white's 3 connected passers decide.
May-24-11  sevenseaman: Did Nisipeanu miss

33... Qe6+ 34. Kd4 Nf3+ 35. Kc3 Nxg1? He is marginally better off.

May-24-11  Shams: <sevenseaman> <Did Nisipeanu miss

33... Qe6+ 34. Kd4 Nf3+ 35. Kc3 Nxg1? He is marginally better off.>

I can't agree; a7 and g1 are both falling which leaves white with quite the movable feast on the queenside, in which his king should find easy shelter. Looks crushing.

May-24-11  sevenseaman: <Shams> No dispute there, Pentala is still winning. I only implied that with the R on board it was much the easier.
Apr-02-22  Z free or die: <Hunted turned hunter>
Apr-22-22  Honey Blend: <Hairy Peanut>??

What was that supposed to mean?

  perfidious: Very good question.
Apr-22-22  Brenin: Groanworthy pun, very entertaining game. Thanks, Rosemei!

Sally Simpson: This is the type of game that would have had Fred Reinfeld going through his well thumbed thesaurus looking for superlatives.

Me as White...without a doubt I'd have sacced on f6 to get to here.

And I would not be able to resist the double check 23.Bd5++ I'd actually wince at the very thought of 23.Bxb7+ You don't chase a8 Rooks when you are setting fire to a King ass.

23.Bd5++ Kh8 sac the Queen. 23.Qxf6+ Qxf6 24.Bxf6 mate.

The get up from the board, sign a few autographs, look disinterested as the gob smacked interviewer worships me, do a book deal with Quality Chess and walk the walk out of the tournament hall.

Apr-22-22  Brenin: <Sally Simpson>: Sorry to deflate the dream, but 23 Bd5+ Kf8 looks OK for Black.

Teyss: <Sally Simpson> ... and wake up from day dreaming when your opponent plays 23...Kf8. But nice potential variation.

These puns, either very obvious (Kapow), either very obscure. Not a Super GM Pune.

Sally Simpson: Hello you two Killjoys,

I saw 23...Kf8 but I know Black would have played 23...Kh8. Like me he would not be able to resist it. Don't ask me how I know, I'm the 7th son of a 7th son and gifted in these matters.

What kind of mind plays over this game and immediately thinks 'Hairy Peanut.' That will be the 8th son of an 8th son, that lot are always bonkers.

Apr-22-22  Brenin: <Sally Simpson>: As a GF (grandfather), rather than a GM (not in my wildest dreams), I know that in young minds the corniest puns are the best. Keep on punning, Rosemei!
