Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-19-06  gauer: 39 Ng5!? appears to be an obvious improvement, the posts of the pawn wall controlling half of the sixth rank in an ending, justifying the timing of give-away of the Exchange advantage. I wonder if Morphy was in trouble at the 39th on the other boards. Or was he just having a less than average day? Anyone else have good examples of such pawn chain endings?

<Or was he just having a less than average day?>

Actually, Morphy was having a pretty good day.

This game was one of his 5 board simultaneous games against Rivière, Boden, Barnes, Bird and Löwenthal. Morphy beat Rivière and Bird, lost to Barnes and drew against Boden and Löwenthal.

Dec-28-08  YoungEd: The game may very well be drawn, but I wonder why Black accepted a draw here at the end. After all, White had other games to worry about!
