Jul-21-05  DanRoss53: Ah, taking a note from Morphy's book. Any knowledgable player today would realise that this game is over after 6. ♗c4!
Jul-24-08  frank124c: Black's big mistake was playing 3. ...Bg4 which loses at least a pawn without compensation.
May-29-12  screwdriver: Wow. That's one of the biggest killings of the Phildor I've seen.

FSR: 7...Qd7?? is Geake's non-improvement on Morphy vs Duke Karl / Count Isouard, 1858. If Black insists on playing 3...Bg4, he <must> play the gambit 4...Nd7. That has actually given Black an even score in CG.com's database, Opening Explorer, against strong opposition, http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches....

FSR: Play like Deak, not Geake. Szigethy vs L Deak, 1988

Korora: 8. ♕xb7+- = ZIP-POW! Geake should have either resigned or given the ♖ up for lost; Zero for a ♖ is a slightly softer blow than a ♗ for a ♕.
