  hesyrett: I'll bet the good Dr. Tarrasch thought that, in playing 17 exd6, he was merely ensuring that before he grabbed the Exchange on f8 he forced either a trade of ♕s or a weakening of Black's pawn structure.  He may have been as surprised by 17...♗xd6 as Richter was by 18 ♕d4!
