Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-24-05  Mating Net: Pretty exciting game. I don't know much about the Najdorf, but it doesn't seem that Black got much out of his pawn sac 17...e4? I know he vacated the e5 square for his Knight, but the horse was captured a few moves later. Morer importantly, White was able to open the f file which lead to the tactical possibilities that followed.

Question for all you Sicilian infidels, is there anything that jumps out at you about this game, for either White or Black, or was the pawn sac gone bad the main story?

Sep-25-05  Averageguy: Neat position at the end. Black can only escape mate by 34...Rxg7 35.fxg7 Kg8 (otherwise Rh6+...Rh8#)36.Rh6 f6/5 37.Rh8+ Kf7 38.g8Q+ Qxg8 39.Rh/gxg8, when black is hopelessly down in material.
Sep-25-05  Raskolnikov: <Averageguy>: After 34...R:g7 35.f:g7 Black has the possibility of 35...f:g6. Therefore I suggest 34...R:g7 35.R:g7+ Kh8 (if 35...Kh6 then 36.Rg8 threating Rh8 mate)36.h6 threating 37.h7 and 38.Rg8 winning the queen or mating if ♕ leaves the 8th rank.
Sep-25-05  Averageguy: <Raskolnikov> Thanks, I forgot about the pawn on f7.
