  Fusilli: Passive setup by white and precise active play by black: 7...d5 is the way to go, questioning white's center (and consistent with the placement of the white knight on d2). 8...Ne4 pokes the bishop and gains space. Then white has to retreat with 9.Be3 which, having initially developed to g5, is a waste of a tempo.

I think I prefer 11.Nxe4, dxe4 12.Qb3+ Kh8 13.Nd2 f5 and there probably 14.d5. I don't like white's position much, but the actual game seems worse. After 12...f5 it is clear that black has the initiative, the king side pawns are coming, and white's castle will be in danger.
