Apr-12-06  kiblitzer: was 8.h3 necessary? or could Perrier have taken on e5 with his 8th move?

  Sneaky: 8.Nxe5? Nxe5
Apr-12-06  dakgootje: reminded me of Legall's mate ( http://www.angelfire.com/games/SBCh... )

Very entertaining game

Apr-12-06  Autoreparaturwerkbau: It clearly states "composition" in the event box above. So i suppose it... was composed, as you suspected.
Apr-12-06  Hoozits: 14...Qxg5 15.c3+ Ke3 16.fxg5 also wins.

Does anyone have time to show me why this is true? Thanks in advance.

Apr-12-06  Hoozits: Take, for instance, 16..., Kf4. Then what?
Apr-12-06  Cyphelium: <Hoozits> 16.- ♔f4 seems to lose to 17. ♖f1+ ♔e5 18. d4+ ♔xe4 19. ♔d2 and ♖de1+ next. I do wonder about 16.- ♘e5 though.
Apr-12-06  dakgootje: <Cyphelium> maybe after 16. ...Ne5 something like Rf1, threatening mate on f3, which is only defended by the black knight, so it cant take the f7-bishop, and white can do things to try to get the knight away with something like d4, i think...
Apr-12-06  Cyphelium: <dakgootje> Yes, I had the same idea. The problem is 16.- ♘e5 17. ♖f1 ♘xd3+.
Apr-12-06  dakgootje: <Cyphelium> ah yes thats a problem indeed, dont know a solution for it at the moment..
Apr-12-06  Comandente: What about 16...Ne5 and 17.0-0? Looks good.
Apr-12-06  Chess Classics: That does look composed but is quite entertaining nonetheless!

Regards,
CC

Apr-12-06  THEVIRTUOSO: if 16... Kf4, 17.0-0 Ke5, 18.d4+ Nxd4, 19.cxd4+ Kxe4, 20.Rfe1+ Kf4, 21.Re5 Kg3, 22.Re4 a6, 23.Rd3# (longest forced mate)

if 16... Ne5, 17.0-0 Nbc4, 18.Rfe1+ Kf4, 19.g3+ Kf5, 20.Rf1+ Nf3, 21.Rxf3+ Ke5, 22.Rf4 c5, 23.d4+ cxd4, 24.cxd4#

if 16... Nd4(to block upcoming Rfe1+), 17.0-0 Re8, 18.Bxe8 Nd5, 19.Rfe1+ Ne2+, 20.Kf1 Kf4, 21.Kxe2 Kf5, 22.Kf3 Ne3, 23.Rxe3 Bd6, 24.Bf7 Bg3, 25.h4 Bxh4, 26.g4+ Ke5, 27.d4# with the help of Chessmaster 10000

Apr-12-06  EmperorAtahualpa: No matter what anyone says, this game can't be for real! It's truly awesome though...
Apr-12-06  jackmandoo: Just to compose this game on your own is impressive. We will never be for certain wheather this real or fake, but lets take the lessons learned from it in either case. Very similar to the case of Saddam's WMD's. Was he making them? Did he have them? Well, we will never know. In either case we should sent over half of the American military and turn Iraq into a country which now resembles a grenade range juuuuust to be on the safe side.

TheAlchemist: I've seen the same game twice already between different opponents. I guess it's just another case like Hamppe-Meitner as far as copying is concerned. Anyway, a brilliant composition (if it's such) nonetheless.
Apr-12-06  blingice: <jackmandoo: In either case we should sent over half of the American military and turn Iraq into a country which now resembles a grenade range juuuuust to be on the safe side.>

Seems like a good preemptive and preventative strategy.

Apr-12-06  kevin86: A one in a billion game! Not rare in chess-where the possibilities go into the billions in about four moves.

A strikingly early queen sac-which quickly isolates the black king from his defenders. White didn't interrupt his business even to recapture the queen.

Perrier-more like Champaign at least in this one.

Aug-07-06  gauer: I sure hope that this 2 ... Nf6 reply isn't the best black follow-up to 1 ... d5?! I'd rather take my chances with the Two Knights, a queen down or otherwise, since the centrally attacked monarch does not live long at move 12: Von Der Lasa vs Mayet, 1839 and Polerio vs Domenico, 1610 being classic examples.

Domdaniel: If this *was* composed, he might have come up with an even more amusing forced mate on move 16:

16.Rfe1+ Ne2+ 17.Rxe2+ Kxe2 18.Nc3+ Ke3 19.d4 Qxd4 20.f5+ Qf4 21.Rd3#

Oct-07-07  Calli: This game was published by Wellmuth in the original Golden Treasury of Chess (David McKay, 1943). It is given as a real game, not analysis. I believe both players were priests. If they lied about this game, then we all know where they are today :-o
Mar-24-09  WhiteRook48: outstanding!
Dec-05-15  morfishine: 'Sparkling Water' Yes 'Sparkling Perrier' No

How does this garbage get through?

Mar-03-19  whiteshark: Duplicate to Imbaud vs Strumilo, 1922 (or v.v.)

Messiah: Excellent game, very nice! Just one thing makes me sad: Black wasn't Justin.
