Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-09-09  YouRang: Very nice move and a good puzzle candidate: 18.Nxg7! destroying black's defense, e.g. 18...Rf8 19.N7h5 <threat: Qh6 & Qg7#> f6 20.Qh6 Rf7 21.Nxf6+ wins.

But black took the bait, which loses faster: 18...Kxg7? 19.Nh5+ and it's mate after a few feeble attempts to postpone it. Examples:

If 19...Kg8 then 20.Qh6 ~#

If 19...Kh7 then 20.Qd4+ ~#

If 19...Kg6 (as in the game), then 20.Qd4 <threat: Qf6# or Qg7#, and there's no stopping both> 20...Nf5 21.exf5+ Kg6 22.h4+ Kh6 23.Qg7#
