notyetagm: The winning move 30 ♕b7! is really nasty, too. The obvious threat is 31 ♕xf7#, the White b7-queen coordinating with the White h7-rook.

<But with heavy piece penetration down the h-file also threatened by the White h1- and h7-rooks, the e7-flight square is critical.> Not only does 30 ♕b7! threaten mate on f7, it also covers this e7-flight square, so now White also threatens the mate in two 31 ♖h8+ ♔g7 32 ♖1h7#.

Black has no adequate defense to these two different mating threats.

Jan-28-07  BadTemper: 33..Qf6!!?? Very deep brilliancy.
