Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-15-06  Bufon: How not to play a bird opening.
Jul-29-09  YoungEd: I agree, <Bufon>. First, 3. ♘f3 seems worse than the usual exd6, and then 6. c3 is inconsequent and gives Black free rein for the K-side attack.
Dec-02-09  beenthere240: This is the same sac (10...Qxh2) as in the puzzle for today (Bird/Dobell vs Gunsberg/Locock). The funny thing is that it ends with a second sac (19...Bxh2+) on the same square. Seeing this game made me realize that the score in the Bird/Dobell game is almost certainly incorrect, ie, 6...g4 had to be followed by 7. Qa4+. No matter how weak, Black never would have missed the forced mate since the whole point of the From gambit is trying to get a check on the h4 square. The idea that black responded to 7. Nd4 by Nc6 (as if to anticipate a check) is beyond credence.
