Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-08-06  Philidor: Can't figure out the idea of 39...♘xh7. Obviously it's a serious mistake, since after 40.♘g6 it loses either the rook or - preferable - the knight.
Jun-08-06  MoonlitKnight: <Philidor> I'm not sure what you mean. 39....Ng6 would lose to 40.Nxf8 and if 40...Bxd4 then 41.Qxd4+ is check, and wins a piece.

I think the strongest move for black in the final position is 39...f5! If 40.Qe3, then 40...Nxc4 41.Rxc4 Kxh7 wins a piece, and if something like 40.Qe2, then 40...Kxh7 wins a piece, since the knight is immune from capture.

But I'm guessing that Arencibia actually lost on time, or else it would be an early resignation.

Jun-15-06  Philidor: <MoonlitKnight> You're right, of course. I was ignorant. Guess time wasn't on my side either.
