Dec-11-07  Cactus: Clearly, black took Fischer's quote too seriously!
Jul-19-08  just a kid: Black knew he was going to lose in 100 more moves when 1.e4 was played.
Sep-25-08  Trigonometrist: "Uncommon" King's opening??!!

It's very common... Have a look at this Game Collection: Games That Need Not Be in the Database

Aug-29-11  Robert Hill: Why even have these game on the site?

It messes up the % odds for the e4 moves.

Aug-29-11  Martha Stewart: It's understandable. 1.e4 can be very daunting. In terms of pieces, they're even, but white is now much further ahead in terms of development. Maybe Arnason had a long day of games ahead of him, and wanted to save his energy for less aggressive openings.

Phony Benoni: Stats, Schmats. We need this game for historical purposes; the Lone Pine 1978 collection wouldn't be complete without it!

The game was from round 1. I don't know the reason Arnason didn't play, though it is a long way from Iceland to Lone Pine. For that matter, it's a long way from <anywhere> to Lone Pine. But he did play the rest of the tournament.

tamar: <Martha Stewart> Janosevic waited 10 long years to unveil this novelty.

Janosevic vs Geller, 1968

Arnason was no doubt ready for no first move, and could not cope with the new situation.

Phony Benoni: Compared to Janosevic vs Geller, 1968, this was an exhausting game for Janosevic.

FSR: Arnason was in his hotel room looking for The Hammer of Thor with which to smite Janosevic.
May-20-13  vasja: Why chessgames.com wastes disk space on such trivialities and does not have games which are much more important?
