Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-23-08  Murphyman: This looks to me like Colle resigned because his Knight will come under fire and cannot prevent both of the following;

A) White rook getting to a7 to set up a mate threat on h7

B) Knight being driven back onto the 8th rank where it will be pinned to the queen.

Any other thoughts?

Nov-09-09  Twocolors: I would say Colle missed a winning position after 21.gxf6? He could have played 21.. Nxe3! Now neither 22.fxe7 Nxf1 nor 22.fxg7+ Kg8 23.Rf2 Qf7 24.Ng3 Nf6 25.Qxe3 Ng4 26.Qf3 Nxf2 nor indeed 22.Qxe3 Nxf6 is satisfactory for white. In the final position 41..bxc4 fails to 42.Rb1! and black has no defence against Rb7. Also 41..b4 doesn't work: 42.Ra1 b3 43.Rxa4 b2 44.Ra7 b1Q 45.Qh7 mate Black's Queen is tied to the defence of f6 and h6 If, however 41..Nb6 then simply 42.cxb5 and black slowly runs out of moves, e.g. 42..Nc8 43.Ke3!(keeps the pressure on) 43..c4 (or Nb6 Ra1! or Ne7 Qg7!) 44.Kd2 with an easy win

Yes, indeed. <21.Bc1=> is a suggestion from the Technical Dept.
