chessgames.com: Can anybody help us identify Black in this game? Jacobo Bolbochan or Julio Bolbochan?

chancho: <chessgames.com> I checked my book: The Complete Games Of Bobby Fischer by Robert G Wade and Kevin J O'Connell, and the tournament crosstable for Mar Del Plata 1959 has one Bolbochan playing there. According to the aforementioned book, Fischer played a Jacobo Bolbochan in rd 14 and won in 50 moves. Bobby later plays the younger brother Julio at Stockholm interzonal 1962. Hope that helps.

Dec-17-06  syracrophy: Black's lost on all variations:

<a)> 16...♕xc5 17.axb4! and black must lose the ♕ or the ♖ of a8

<b)> 16...b3 17.♗xe7<Not 17.Qxb3? Qxc5> 17...bxc2 18.♗xf8 ♗xf8 19.♖fc1 and White's up a whole ♖

Phony Benoni: <syracrophy> Black is not lost in all variations. If, for instance, 16...Qg5 17.Be2 Qxg2#, Black is somewhat better.

However, Black might well be lost in all <reasonable> variations.

Dec-26-07  pwt: 16...Qg5 17.Nxg5
Mar-04-08  waustad: That's why he added the <reasonable>.
