Dec-12-09  MagisterMusicae: Oh... nunca pensé en Shakira para solucionar el acertijo. Creí que era un grupo de glam o rock de los 70s, 80s...
Dec-12-09  Vorph: Same here.. I thought it was Led Zeppelin and was quite disappointed that google didn't find anything useful.
Dec-12-09  scrambler: <NakoSonorense> Congrats, but how did you get this, how does this video frame lead one to some obscure chessplayer named Ripoll, Shakira's mother's maiden is Ripoll but still how does that lead you to this particular game even if you just happen to know Shakira's mothers maiden name, it could just as well been her first name, whatever that is.

I went crazy trying to solve this one I saw the 2 black rooks and the rock 'n' roll group and though ok rook 'n' rook ending and the guy on the right resembles Rubinstein, Kashdan, and Seriawan, so I checked all their games... nothing. Then I noticed what seemed like a spotlight on the lower right on the players hands and throught ok hands, let's try hans I tried Hans Ree and Hans Kmoch... nothing.

Dec-12-09  JaneEyre: I thought it was the all-female rock band, Vixen. But there the trail went cold.
Dec-12-09  Thrajin: I thought maybe it was the '80s hair band Poison, so I searched every Poisoned Pawn game I could find, to no avail. LOL!
Dec-12-09  NakoSonorense: <scrambler> Thanks.

I tried many things, too. Among others, I googled pictures with several combinations of the words "chess, concert, rock, blonde, mustache" etc. The more pictures I looked, the more conviced I became that it wasn't really a picture, but a still from a video.

So I abandonded that path and went with my first hunch: Shakira. I got her full name from her wikipedia article and then I put all four of them (Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll) individually into search engine. Shakira gives 0 results; Isabel gives 28 results; Mebarak 0 results; and Ripoll only 15.

Since Isabel didn't work, I thought about searching other variations of it, like Isabella, Isabelle, Isabela, etc. but only after I had finished with her official name. Luckily for me, this game was the fourth in the list of games from this player.

Dec-12-09  TheBish: Curious why Black resigned here. I like White's position, but Fritz says Black is better by almost a full pawn (-0.82).
Dec-12-09  DeltaHawk: Dang it! I should have searched for "Saddam Hussein chess" in Google. I should have known the man with the mustache playing chess in the video still in the photo was Saddam Hussein.
Dec-13-09  whatthefat: So. Obscure.
