Phony Benoni: According the collection of Alekhine's games edited by Khalifman, Black played 25...Bf5 and lasted until move 50. My database has copies of the game with both continuations. Can anybody clarify which is correct?

  Calli: <Phony> Its another fake game from Alekhine. Big surprise! He did not play 29.Nxg4+! as he gave in My Best Games. The real game goes 25.Nc4 Bf5 26.Qg5+ Ke6 27.Qe3 Qh8 28.Re1 Rd8 29.Nxe5 Kf6 30.Nf7 Qf8 31.Nxd8 Qxd8 32.Qe5+ Kf7 33.Re3 b5 34.Qc3 Qd6 35.Qe5 Qd8 36.b4 a5 37.bxa5 Qxa5+ 38.Ke2 Qd8 39.b4 Qd7 40.d4 Be6 41.Ra3 Qb7 42.Qh8 Qe7 43.Ra7 Bd7+ 44.Qe5 Qe6 45.Qxe6+ Kxe6 46.Ke3 Kd6 47.d5 cxd5 48.Kd4 Be8 49.Ra6+ Bc6 50.Rb6 1-0

Note that the position after the 29th move in the real game is the same as the fake game in "My Best Games" after the 28th move due to some transpositions. Thanks for reminding me about this one. I am trying to put a collection Alekhin fakes, but simply can't recall all those that have been found over the years.

AylerKupp: I suspect that no one in the audience threw gold coins at the chessboard after Alekhine's 50.Rb6.
