Jun-22-07  PaulKeres: I though 17...O-O-O looked dubious from Daniel, and that Friso looked good. But with a mixture of Friso messing it up, and Daniel digging deep it was a great win for Stellwagen to take the lead in Dutch-ch.

Anyway, whether Friso was better after 17...O-O-O!?/?! (haven't looked at computer analysis, or master commentary on it, just MHO) or not, it was a great game. A REAL WINAWER MESS. Brilliant!

  Stonehenge: From the Royal Dutch Chess Federation:

Stellwagen was lucky that Nijboer had prepared so extremely well that he messed up the move order.

<19.Kf2>
19.Bd3! was Nijboer's idea. At home he had the megaline 19...Bxg2 20.Kf2 Qc6 21.Rb4 Qf3+ 22.Ke1 Qh5 23.Rc4+ Bc6 24.Rxg8 Nf3+ 25.Kf2 Qh4+ 26.Rg3 Qxh2+ 27.Ke3 Nxe5 28.Qa8+ Kc7 29.Qa5+ Kc8 30.Rxc6+ Nxc6 31.Qg5 Nd4 32.Qxd8+ Kxd8 33.Rg8+ Kd7 34.Kxd4 on the board and it's very good for white!

<20.Be3?!>
20.exf6! is better

<21.Bc4?!>
21.Bd3 is more solid

Sep-13-09  computer chess guy: Very nice tactics at the end. White should have deviated earlier, but was not outright losing until 24. Rbd1? (24. Qxc3 is better). After that Black found all the right moves to win by force.
Sep-13-09  chillowack: It seemed like Friso was just grabbing too many pawns, and after 18.Qxa7 I actually wanted him to be punished.
