Jul-08-07  Gouki: hmmm...

Anand's been playing the Sicilian Najdorf pretty long compared to Topalov.

I mean, you would think that Topalov would play something different, when he knows fully well that Anand knows all the lines.

but good try by him nonetheless :D

Yes, when it comes to mating attacks and pawn promotion, it is worth much material to <BLOCK THE LINE> of a <DEFENDING> line piece.

Jul-08-07  Atking: Maybe 17...Qc6 was stronger? Exchange and Kd8-Kc7. Indeed this game is simply Incredible! I really want to see a match Kramnik vs Anand

notyetagm: Finding 28 ♗e3-b6! and 29 ♗b6-d8+! is the difference between an easy win and a difficult win. Damn the bishop is a powerful piece on an open board.

This theme of <BLOCKING> enemy line pieces (♗♖♕) that <DEFEND> the promotion square of your passed pawns is one that I am seeing over and over again the past several days.

29 ♗b6-d8+! is a lovely <INTERFERENCE/LINE-CLOSING> shot with which to end a brilliant game by Anand.

Jul-09-07  kingsindian2006: to give up a knight for 2 pawns ( the whole queen side basically ) then a rook for a knight .. Thats some sweet chess by anand...
Jul-13-07  jaime gallegos: no doubt this game is a chess program preparation ....
Jul-19-07  jtd200: Well, the rook for the knight was actually a rook + pawn for a knight + bishop... The only long term sac might've been the piece for the pawns, but I'm pretty sure Anand's played it over many, many times in his preperation :)
Jul-22-07  babakova: 29.Rd8 is also a pretty simple win.. Bd8 is pretty but I dont know if it's any better or achieves an easier mop up at all.
Aug-11-07  Chessmensch: Super play by Anand. Malcolm Pein highlights this game in his Telegraph chess column on August 12, 2007. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/gra...

An excellent win by World Champion Anand.

Jan-12-09  Phantom.Nightmare: 12.Nxa6! was a well worth sacrifice to create pass pawns. The position already looked good for white after 9.a4! Stunning performance by Anand.
