Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-04-07  alexandrovm: they must be enemies in real life, to play on in a drawn position (rook vs rook!) for such a long time!
Oct-07-07  chessamateur: This is ridiculous. I can't believe they really played on at all in a K+R vs K+R ending, let alone for as long as they did. Is this true?!

norami: After a long series of threats and counterthreats, the game reached a critical moment after White's 211th move. Black had four possible responses, but according to the computer tablebases only one held the draw. To his credit Black was able to find a path through the maze of variations, avoid options that were tempting but ultimately futile, and secure the draw.
Mar-13-08  sallom89: i wonder if white didn't capture how long it would go lol!
Mar-26-08  Fast Gun: What a farce !! This pair want shooting:
Mar-26-08  GibGezr: Are they allowed to drink wine at the board in Dos Hermanas? We can only assume so.
Oct-14-08  gazzawhite: I could just imagine that they were more than eager to play on in the final position, but the arbiter demanded that they stop :D
Jan-14-09  WhiteRook48: play on with just two kings on the board? That's insane.
Feb-07-09  WhiteRook48: why not 211. Re7?
Feb-09-09  WhiteRook48: they probably didn't care about 50 move rule
Feb-12-09  WhiteRook48: white should not have traded
Feb-27-09  WhiteRook48: <norami> Absurdly funny
Dec-11-09  melianis: artificially long rib(eiro)-gonz(o)les was not the holiday hunt answer then..., "Do you have somewhere to go?" "No." "Let's play some more." "OK."
Jan-13-10  YouRang: <norami> Good analysis, lol!
Jan-13-10  YouRang: One possible theory:

Both players were about to be executed, but they were granted one last wish. Of course, they opted to play a game of chess with each other.

Natually, they played on and on, until finally execution seemed more bearable than the game.
