technical draw: No kibitzing? With that great move 37.Qxe8!!....Carlsen must have turned paler than he is!
Nov-21-07  Resignation Trap: Carlsen could also have resigned after 36.Rxa7, since White threatens 37.Qe7+, 37.cxb6 <and> 37.Qe5. So it seems that 36...Re8 was "best".

Ron: Queen sacrifice! Would be a good problem at move 37.
Nov-21-07  ChessCompFan: this is similar to the game between onischuk and carlsen at biel. queen sacrifice.
Nov-22-07  pawnofdoom: Ivanchuks first win ever against Carlsen! Now Calsen is +3 -1 against Ivanchuk. Unfortunately for IVanchuk, the -1 was in a blitz game

Onischuk vs Carlsen, 2007 is the first thing that came to my mind, too, when I saw this game.

It's deja vu all over again: ♕x♖+! destroys the enemy rook that defends the promotion squares on the 8th rank and then the enemy king and queen are helpless to prevent the promotion of a powerful passer.

Honza Cervenka: <notyetagm> A small difference is that in Biel Magnus was not on receiving end of this staff.
