FSR: This is a weird game. Why didn't Black play 17...Nxg6?

Phony Benoni: <FSR> Comprehensible moves are not allowed in the Latvian Gambit.

Seriously, it's possible there is a typo in the game score, and that Black actually played 15...Nexg4.

New-in-chess database gives <12...Nd4>, so that 15...Nxg4 is clear cut and 17...Nxg6 is impossible.

Phony Benoni: <whiteshark> That looks right, especially since it explains 13.Kd1 as well.

FSR: <whiteshark> and <Phony Benoni> Yes, that is undoubtedly the explanation. 13.Kd1 did seem a rather bizarre response to 12...Ne5. And then after 13.Kd1, you'd expect Black to take the free pawn on g4.
Aug-01-11  ChitownChesster: This is a pretty crazy game. I guess Black just wanted to see just how much he could get away with.
