"In '67 the player J.C.Torres, Argentina, complained to the UDAPA correspondence tournament organizers, that he still after 30 days had received no postcards with chess moves - socalled 'chess cards' - from any opponent. Big was his surprise when he was told that he had already played and lost 2 of his 3 games, in 10 and 13 moves.Mr. Torres, a strong player, investigated matters further. It turned out that his 9 year old son who'd just learned the game had found the chess cards in the mail, and had replied to each of them with the best move he could find. Mr. Torres objected, claiming that the result should be cancelled, but the tournament management decided that any player was responsible for correspondence brought to his house. 'So, next time I might bribe my opponents maid to make a silly move', Mr. Torres reportedly answered. The UDAPA organizers regard the case as closed." |

Not a rolling on the floor, wetting myself with uncontrollable mirth sort of joke, but a pun all the same. Great explanation by <sfm> of what was really happening here. That gave me more of a laugh. |

| | patzer2: This is a poorly played Latvian gambit by Black. The mainline is 3...Qf6 as in E Garzon vs M Herrera, 2004. Unfortunately, with the strength of computer analysis, the Latvian gambit is pretty much finished as a serious attempt in Master play. |
