Mar-27-08  Karpova: <The Ukrainian grandmaster got the opportunity to hit back in the rapid game. In a level position, Topalov blundered 20…Bd7 (a better idea would have been 20…Bxd4 for instance) and was immediately punished by 21.Ne6. The rest of the game was torture for the Bulgarian, as White’s task was rather elementary.> http://www.amberchess2008.com/

An Englishman: Good Evening: Topalov's first loss with the Caro-Kann this year. I like Ivanchuk's choice of the Panov-Botvinnik Attack (4.c4). I always felt this was the biggest threat to the CK. I liked playing either side of the board: so much so that if opponents played 1...c6 after 1.c4, I frequently chose 2.e4! and transposed to playing against my favorite defense.

When playing Black, I never liked 5...Nc6 and 6...Be6. Believe it or not, this is theory, but I played 5...e6 and 6...Bb4, which transposes to one of my favorite lines of the Nimzo-Indian.
