Apr-16-08  Jim Bartle: I wonder what black thought when he saw 17. Bxa6.
Apr-16-08  square dance: maybe "oops" or "oh @#$%". those are my guesses.
Feb-06-09  adhitthana: I know what I would have thought. "Huh?...O boy I hope white just blundered"

fredthebear: Fine play by White's light-squared bishop. 17.Bxa6! shows the bishop is immune to capture. If 17...RxBa6 18.Rd8#. If 17...QxBa6 18.QxQa6! still threatening checkmate.

Then the simple 18.Bb5 threatens to capture w/check and fork the cornered rook. When Black defends w/the queen, White sets a crosspin w/the queen that will win material.

Well done White!
