Oct-14-08  LaFreaK: Oh my God.
Nov-18-08  shintaro go: One of my favorite Wesley So games. Black cannot meet the threat of 35. Rb8 Bc8 36. Rxc8 Qxc8 37. Qe7#. If Black decides to get rid of the pesky f-pawn by 34..Qxf6, then 35. Rb8+ Ke7 36. Qc5#.
Dec-22-09  licuan: This was the game where i like WESLEY So the most, initiative at its best.
Jun-01-10  OneArmedScissor: impressive
Jun-03-10  dahongpilak: woah. that was beautiful.

Phony Benoni: I suggested this pun for a different game, so either it got borrowed or we have a couple of great minds running in the same channel.

This game is far better than the one I picked, so I'm glad it ended up here.

I wonder how many of us here are old enough to remember firsthand the song "Subterranean Homesick Blues"?

Apr-26-12  sevenseaman: So cat and mouse!

Good ol' Rob Zimmerman!
Apr-26-12  newzild: While I was clicking through the game I thought that after 26. Qa5 Black should try 26...f6. The idea is to provide a flight path for the king to g8.

Can anyone offer a refutation?

HeMateMe: I thought his name was Bob Dylan?
Apr-26-12  popescuag: 26...f6 27. Qd8 Kf7 28. Rd7+ Kg6 and as we know the king alone cannot fight against Q+R so the mate will soon follow.
Apr-26-12  Ratt Boy: <HeMateMe: I thought his name was Bob Dylan?>

Sure, that's the name he chose when he wanted to make it big. But he was born a Zimmie.

Troller: Radiohead has a song "Subterranean Homesick <Alien>" on one of their albums.
Apr-26-12  Atking: I like that game too but I have a doubt on 15...Kd8(?) 15...Ke7 isn't more natural? 16.NxN QxB 17.NxB RxN d6 is protected. Looks like pawn+initiative for a N (2 pawns is playable but one should be not enought.).

Good pun

Richard Taylor: Good game but 15. b4 might win more quickly. It is a typical complex Najdorf.
Apr-26-12  lentil: "you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows" (And it sure blew hard and steady in this game!)
Apr-26-12  LoveThatJoker: This is a great game. Two worthy opponents and competitors here!

According to Stockfish, after 20. Qd4 Qc7 was preferable (instead of the actually played 20...Rc8)

Here White had two tries:

A) 21. g3 Rc8 22. c3 a5 23. Qf6 Rd8 24. f5 Rxd1+ 25. Rxd1 e5 26. a3 h5 27. Qh4 Rh8 28. Qf6 Rf8 (Equal)

B) 21. Re3 Rd8 22. Qa4+ Ke7 23. Qb4+ Kf6 24. e5+ Kg7 25. Rd6 (-0.04)

Apr-26-12  mikmik777: Nice dark square strategy!

  kevin86: White can win the rook...but 34...♕xf6 35 ♖b8+ ♔e7 36 ♖xg8...oops,♕c5# IS better
Apr-26-12  shintaro go: can't believe my comment was 4 years old already
Apr-26-12  Jack Kerouac: '20 years of schoolin' and they put you on the day shift.' That's why I hit the road.
