Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-21-08  hedgeh0g: Zomg! Topalov played the Exchange Variation! Whine whine whine!
Nov-21-08  acirce: Black messed up very badly early on, Topalov was not exactly tested much here. He has a probably winning position already after 12 moves (and at most 5 plies out of theory). Because of the f5 threat, no matter what Black tries White is going to get "the pawn and the compensation".
Nov-21-08  Whitehat1963: So, then, what's the finish? Is it 38...Qxe5 for black next?
Nov-21-08  Chicago Chess Man: 38. ...Qxe5?? loses instantly to 39. Qh8+

White wins easily after 38...Q to any square 39. f6

Nov-21-08  Whitehat1963: Oops! Didn't even notice that the king has no excape square! Pathetic chess blindness. Reason number 2,373,964,988 for why I'm not a GM.

Fusilli: It was a cakewalk for Topalov. Or at least he made it look so!

On how to trash black if he captures the b4 pawn after 10.b4, see: Bareev vs Lputian, 2000
