Penguincw: Congrats <thegoodanarchist>. Looks like the 2nd day in a row where a user suggests a GOTD pun and it gets chosen soon after.

Earlier this year, one of the meetings here was also GOTD S Knott vs S Gordon, 2013.

Quick, someone suggest a similar pun for S Knott vs S Gordon, 2006!

Jul-25-15  waustad: The joke is a lot better than the game. When they follow my first thought for almost the whole game it will usually draw.
Jul-25-15  newzild: Well there goes another minute of my life... The pun is nice but the game doesn't deserve GOTD status.
Jul-25-15  Eusebius: Why this boring game??
Jul-25-15  leow: Maybe there should be a site for puns, so we could have chessgames concentrate on chess iso this childish nameplay
Jul-25-15  Abdel Irada: Maybe a pun subdomain, reserved for bland games with piquant puns?

morfishine: <waustad><newzild><Eusebius><leow> My sentiments exactly. Another fine example of how pathetic the "GOTD" can become. Here, word-play spin on 'Gordian Knott' was voted in eons ago, and now we have to suffer spins on spins. Oh I see, lets just change the spelling??????????

In all fairness, there have been a host of really great games at the GOTD

But then we get this

kevin86: Great pun! The game left me tied in knots. The game, obviosly ended in a TIE! Would that (as Mr.Spock once said) constitute a joke? lol

thegoodanarchist: <waustad>, <Penguincw>, <Abdel Irada> and others, I hear what you are saying.

<morfishine> in particular has been a vociferous critic of unspectacular games becoming GOTD because of a great pun.

Well, I would argue that some of the GOTD have neither interesting play nor good puns. For example,

Marshall vs Dus Chotimirsky, 1911

is a very poor game and it doesn't even have a pun for a title! Instead, the title is a quip by the victor.

And as <kevin86> points out, this game ended in a tie :)

morfishine: <thegoodanarchist> Good point about the Marshall game, I didn't even bother to comment at all, what-with being struck speechless :)
