Jan-24-09  dehanne: What a heartbreak game for Smeets.
Jan-24-09  sallom89: what happend here? I thought Moro got his 4th-5th loss when I ran Rybka to analyze, finally! congrats Moro!
Jan-24-09  Salaskan: Smeets was winning, but got in time trouble and missed 28...Nf7! 29.Rxh4 Rg1 winning and 30...f2, which also gives him pretty good chances. The ending thereafter was drawn, but Smeets blundered with 48...Nc4??. Unbelievable.

Just like Reinfeld/Chernev said: <<<THERE ARE *ALWAYS(!)* THREATS AGAINST LOOSE PIECES>>>

Here the <LOOSE PIECE> is the Black c4-knight, attacked once by the White d3-king, defended once by the Black d5-pawn.

One attacker, one defender, equal number of attackers and defenders, <LOOSE>. And the <REMOVE THE GUARD> shot 49 ♗f3xd5+! wins a pawn and the game.

<<<LOOSE/UNDEFENDED PIECES ARE THE BASIS OF COMBINATIONS>>>

Jan-25-09  percyblakeney: <I'd appreciate it if you'd refrain from posting Rybka evals on the live game page without any kind of actual analysis or explanation.

Why don't you try learning about chess instead of annoying everyone?>

He sure isn't annoying me, but your personal attacks against other users tend to get a bit repetitive.

48 ... ♘d6-c4?? 49 ♗f3xd5+! with 50 e3-e4+ to follow is now my standard example for the <REMOVE THE GUARD> tactic.

I cannot emphasize this enough: <<<YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR DEFENDERS TO BE SUBJECTED TO ATTACK!>>>.
