  eternaloptimist: How about 43...Rc7 ?
Jan-28-09  MyCatPlaysChess: Nxf4 looks strong in this position...

eternaloptimist: On second thought I'll agree w/ Karpova w/ 43...♖d8. Then Kamsky can move his ♘ to c3 to neutralize Chucky's ♖in the next couple of moves.

eternaloptimist: After ♕a7 of course to guard the ♖.
Jan-28-09  JG27Pyth: <Kamsky has played like a worthless two bit drunken bum ever since he 'won' his match with Topalov.> Remember how hideously Anand played in the months leading up to the Anand v Kramnik title match? Don't write Gata off... (that said, honestly, I'm a Kamsky fan and I'm disappointed in his play of late.)
Jan-28-09  waustad: <WWP>He won the world chess cup. That was the prize for it. If anything, his claim is the strongest for a match, since it was won over the board, not in the boardroom.

eternaloptimist: Well, I would think that Kamsky has certain opening novelties prepared for his match w/ Topa in February. He has never beaten Topa to my knowledge. According to the CG database, his record is +0 -4 =4. I would imagine that he doesn't want to disclose his best stuff in Corus; maybe that's part of the reason he's not getting the best positions in the world.

Yes I am a fan of his too. I can understand easing off the pedal a bit with a match coming up, but not to this extent.

Anand was a slightly different case I feel, because he was after all overhauling his entire repertoire behind the scenes so retrospectively his bad performance pre-match is not so surprising.

But I doubt Gata is up to such extensive revisions.

Wild Bill: <Woody Wood Pusher: <Why has Kamsky got a free shot at the title, when Chucky hasn't?>>

Because Kamsky won the qualifying event (Khanty-Mansiysk 2007) and Chuckie didn't.

Now that I've said that, Ivanchuk has played better chess since then, but the last thing we need is for Kirsan and Company to be making up more "rules" in order to "remedy" this matter.

eternaloptimist: <WWP>: Also, Anand is a risky player, so sometimes his results suffer because of that.

eternaloptimist: Well, I'm spot on! I accurately predicted Kamsky's last 3 moves (his 43rd-45th moves). I just wish this happened more often because then I might be a GM. :D

Yes the sooner we have a stable cycle the better. Now I'm off to feed my flying pig.

eternaloptimist: <JG27Pyth & WWP>: Actually, I'm a Kamsky fan too, so I'm hoping he can draw this game. He's a ♙ down, but Chucky's position is cramped...needless to say he has a bad ♗. Because of this a draw is definitely possible.
Jan-28-09  Karpova: Apparently, 48...Qc7 was an inaccuracy and Rybka gave 49.Ng5+ with +0.6 but Ivanchuk still has +0.31|d16 after 49.Be1

eternaloptimist: How about 54.e5, cutting off the ♗'s diagonal?
Jan-28-09  Woody Wood Pusher: Chucky has a good record in these sorts of endgames I think. This will be difficult for Gata.
Jan-28-09  waustad: The gordian knot has been chopped.

eternaloptimist: Here's an interesting link if any of u guys want to check it out: http://www.geocities.com/lifemaster... Actually, the guy who wrote this, A. J. Goldsby, lives in Pensacola, FL (about an hour or so away from where I live). He has a master rating & competes in otb tournaments in this area. Note: I'm not saying I agree w/ him on these lists. As far as the best endgame players, what no Karpov? Also, Maroczy #4? I'm going to have to study some of his endgames to scope this out. Although, Benko sites his endgames sometimes, so this help Goldsby's opinion some. Anyway, it's interesting.

eternaloptimist: Sweet! Gata held Chucky to a draw!
Jan-28-09  Woody Wood Pusher: <optimist> seems like that guy has never heard of Karpov. Not even in the top 10 endgame/defensive or best tournament players? Give me a break.

What? Drop the spite, Kamsky could beat you without his queen.

HAHA

In his dreams maybe.
