Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-19-09  al.Bashir: L Dominguez vs Grischuk, 2008 from this past November was probably still fresh in Grischuk's mind as they played the poisoned pawn variation here as well.
Feb-20-09  Eyal: <Dominguez-Grischuk was also quite interesting from a theoretical point of view. For thirteen moves the two repeated their game of last year at the World Blitz Championship [...] and this time Dominguez went for 14.Rg1, but Grischuk only needed to play the standard stuff (sacrife the d-pawn, improve the position of the bishop and play ...f6 somewhere) to equalize - in fact he got a promising position, but couldn't find a way to make us of it.> (http://www.chessvibes.com/reports/a...)

Apparently, Grischuk missed a winning chance on move 26:

26...Rde8+! (26...Rge8+ allows 27.Be2) 27.Kd2 (now 27.Be2? loses to 27...Rg1+; 27.Kd1 Rg1 is also bad) 27...Ne4+ 28.Kc1 Rg4 29.Be3 (29.Bd2? Rg1!; 29.Bg3 Nxg3 30.hxg3 Rxg3) 29...Ng3! 30.hxg3 (30.Rxg4 Nxf1 next picking up the bishop on e3) 30...Rxe3 winning a pawn.
