Aug-24-11  DrMAL: This game follows the prior year Bareev vs Ivanchuk, 1998 where Chucky played 13...Rad8 as well. Except instead of 14...Qb4 Kasparov played 14...Qc6 the stronger alternative in the complicated position.

With 15.Be3 attacking instead of 15.Bf4 to reinforce the pawn on d6, the multipurpose 15...Ne4! does not leave white with anything particularly good. 16.Nc3 to exchange knights was white's best chance but instead Anand tried to exchange queens via 16.Qb5?! where 16...Bd7! led to black being up R for B because of 20...Bxf3! Again, 23.Bf4 to reinforce the pawn was probably best since with 23.Bxd4 the pawn on d6 was going to fall anyway (via 24...Rd7!). Another tactical bludgeoning by Kasparov!

Feb-14-21  siggemannen: Damn, Kasparov is good. He also had to see that 24...Rd7 is ok due to 25.Bc6?! Rc8 and bishop is pinned (and pissed).
