profK: White does nothing to hinder what is a natural attacking formation for black in such setups. Jan never really cracked it against the mighty MAX.
Aug-03-13  sneaky pete: The game collection in Münninghof's 1994 Donner biography gives a 23 move version of this game. After 13.Nc2 Rc8 14.Na3 .. and only now 14... Qg5 15.g3 Rf6 etc was played.

After 13... Rc8 14.Na3 ..

Kmoch wrote: "The Knight joins the banned Bishop. We can now expect Ra2, Qa1 and Rb1, when ... Nb3 wins the Queen." It doesn't come that far, but in the end ... Nb3# is lurking around the corner.

A source for the Kmoch quote is not given. I couldn't find the game in a magazine from that period.

Aug-03-13  thomastonk: <sneaky_pete> You'll find the game published by H.Kramer in "Onze Schaak- en Damrubriek" in the "Leeuwarder courant", October 27, 1951 (day issue) at, of course.
