Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-04-09  zatara: closed positions tend to end fast..
Jan-31-10  Alphastar: Black plays right into white's hands with 11. ..f4? when after 12. h4! he cannot open up the kingside anymore.

Laznicka manoeuvred carefully to get the b4-push through, then to get c4-c5 through, but black blocked that with ..c5 himself. However, this left his pawn structure weak and Laznicka then positioned his pieces to blow right through the center with the piece sacrifice 39. Ngxf4!

Note that while 38. .. h6?! seems a fatal weakening by black, white was going to blow it open anyway, eg 38. Ra6 39. Rbe1 Raa8 40. Ngxf4! exf4 41. e5 followed by 42. Bxf4 when black's position is crumbling.

A model game in this KID Benko Attack line.
