HeMateMe: Mate in one. Most painful!
Sep-04-09  vonKrolock: after <36...♔g8>

<37.♗c4!> Just one of at least three possibilities (with 37.♖b6 ♗b6 38.♖b7 with idea of ♗d7 etc, or 37.♖dxc7 ♘xc7 ▢ 38.♖xb6 ♘d5 etc) - but surely the most artistic! } ♗ut 37...♘g7 was not the lesser evil...

Sep-04-09  luzhin: Actually, HeMateMe, after 40...Ne8 41.Rxe8+ Kg7, there is no mate; but it's still resignable.
Sep-04-09  luzhin: A very smooth controlled game by Short, although Black could have put up stout resistance with 37...Rc6, instead of blundering away a piece with 37...Ng7.
Sep-05-09  alexrawlings: Why not 11..Bxb4? Is there a tactic I'm not seeing?
Sep-05-09  Notagm: Alexrawlings: Because of 12. Rb1 and the pawn on b7 falls.
