Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-23-09  theodor: 21.Re5?!
Sep-23-09  ILikeFruits: yes...
Sep-23-09  Ulhumbrus: Instead of 18...b5, 18...Be6 gets the bishop out.
Sep-23-09  rangek: Probably a loss on time.

HIARCS gives +0.9 eval on final position

Sep-23-09  ycbaywtb: the match is disappointing to me a bit, hardly any endgames, i liked Kasparov's KN sac in game 2, but Karpov is under unbelievable time pressure in game 1 and 4, i like his win in game 3, but that style win will not occur frequently, Kasparov is great at not allowing an opponent to do what he's planning, yet his attacks cannot be foreseen so to speak, i don't know, i almost hate seeing these two trading blows, maybe i'll change my mind as their games and the match continues, who knows, the games are interesting
Sep-24-09  kellmano: Yes a loss on time in this manner is slightly annoying if the eval is only + 0.9

kingscrusher: I have video annotated this game on Youtube:

Sep-24-09  aazqua: I think Kasparov is a little frustrated that Karpov can't seem to figure out the clock yet.
Sep-24-09  jmboutiere: 23....Rc8 +0.49 Rybka 3
26. ... h6 +0.49; 26. ...Ne6 +0.57
27....Re6 +0.62; 27....Be6 + 0.81
30. ...Ra8 +0.93; 30...Rbc6 +0.85
final position 33. ... Bd7 +0.85
Sep-26-09  Starf1re: Kasparov is still the best! Great game.
Sep-30-09  ajile: This match would have been better at longer time controls. Kasparov is better at speed chess. So what?
Nov-11-09  M.D. Wilson: Kasparov is better than Karpov at speed chess now. That was not always the case, according to John Nunn and others. Age is an important factor, as is fitness; Karpov wasn't exactly in great shape.

It would be good to see Karpov play some training matches against the new generation. In doing so, he might get himself into shape and compete more successfully against the top line of stars. Karpov never worked as hard as his contemporaries (Korchnoi, Kasparov), especially in openings (i.e., he was never really an openings maven anyway), but I think he has to put in a few hours so he doesn't keep getting blown away.

Oct-20-14  Raj Dey: Kasparov is un comparable.
He is the greatest.
