Oct-23-09  Petrosianic: Why wouldn't it be? How can Black defend?

Everett: White threatens 39.Ne5 and 40.d7

38..Qe6 is met by 39.Qe5
38..Qd7 is met by 39.Ne5

Oct-23-09  Jim Bartle: Thanks. Somehow I looked only at the direct threat to the black king, and forgot about the pawns ready to queen.
Oct-23-09  Petrosianic: <38..Qe6 is met by 39.Qe5
38..Qd7 is met by 39.Ne5>

And 38...Re2 prevents 39. Ne5, but then 39. Qd8+ and 40. c8/q.

Oct-23-09  Bdellovibrio: I'm interested in the exchange sac 13. ♘c3
Oct-24-09  zatara: This is such an incredible game..Shirov makes black's moves to look meaningless..
Oct-25-09  maxxowar: 38.Qd8! is faster than 38.Nc3.

I like it!

Perhaps Shirov didn't feel like calculating 38.Qd8 Qc8 39.Qxc8 Rxc8 40.d7 or 38.Qd8 Qe6 39.d7
