Gypsy: White faces too many mate and promotion threats:

(1) <41.Qd6+ Kh7 42.Qa6 Qd3 43.Qxd3...> (lest 43...Qf1#) <43...exd3 ... 0-1>

(2) <41.Qc1 g4+ 42.Kh4 Qf6#>

(3) <41.Qxf3 exf3 42.g4 h4 43.a4 f5 44.a5 fxg4+ 45.Kxg4 f2 ... 0:1>

Oct-24-09  Klingsor: Gypsy: your line (2) is flawed. 41...g4+ is illegal and in any case 42. Of6 is not mate.

  Gypsy: Better still,

(1b) <41.Qd6+ Kh7 42.Qa6 Kg7 ...> and Black wins.

The quiet 42...Kg7 takes away the annoying check of ...42...e3 43.Qd3+... and the king now also protects f6. White thus faces three deathly threats: (i) 43...Qd3 44.Qxd3 exd3 ..., (ii) 43...g4+ 44.Kh4 Qf6+ ..., and (iii) 43...e3 with e2 and Qf1# ..., and the game is done.

(Incidentally, after ...41.Qd6+ Kh7 42.Qa6 Qd3 43.Qf6 Qf3 44.Qa6 Kg7 ..., variation (1) reverts to (1b).)

Oct-25-09  Andrew Chapman: So what's the win after 41.Qc1?
Oct-25-09  slomarko: easiest is 41...e3

Gypsy: <Klingsor: Gypsy: your line (2) is flawed.> You are right. My bad.

<41.Qc1 e3> (Slomarko)

And now, the 42...g4+ 43.Kh4 Qf6# is a pretty much unstoppable threat. (White needs to protect f1 and Black queen prevents for all practical purposes the only available check from c6.)
