The only move to save the queen is 23...Qb8, whereupon either 24.Qh6 or 24.Nxf6+ both mate in short order.

Indeed, if Black wanted to play on the rook should not be taken, when White has two bishops for a rook and attacking prospects. Still would have been worth at least a token effort.

Jan-27-16  morfishine: Admiralable game
Jan-27-16  whiteshark: double rucksack (on f6),
dominant outpost,
strucural damage,
mating net
Jan-27-16  goodevans: All of white's pieces are crucial to the win in the final position. If it wasn't for white's Be2 then ...Nc4 would save the day for black.

  HeMateMe: Fleet enema.
Jan-27-16  TheTamale: Once again, <PhonyBenoni> to the rescue of patzers like me. Thanks, PB. Looks like if Black just decides to surrender the queen, he's still down a piece. Oh, nope--White wouldn't even bother taking; looks like mate is still on the table. And I thought White just didn't like rooks.

Was that someone you?

Phony Benoni: <WammaBe> It was me. Sorry about that; I wasn't aware it was your idea.

This pun submitting gets weird sometimes. I've sent in quite a few I considered classically good, only to have them ignored. (Happens to everybody, I'm sure.) This one, which I consider adequate but hardly memorable, was submitted on Monday and hit Broadway on Wednesday!

Go figure.

AylerKupp: <Phony Benoni> Stop submitting puns on Monday! The <chessgames.com> staff is tired and not thinking straight after a weekend of partying, so their judgement is impaired. Actually, I'm just jealous that they don't invite me to them. I would fit right in since my judgement is usually impaired, party or no party. :-)
Jan-27-16  mruknowwho: I guess Black didn't anticipate 20.Rxf6. The warning signs are there; everything is aimed at the king side, but I guess he either didn't see it or perhaps he miscalculated.

WannaBe: <Phony Benoni> No biggie, I was making the comment that he was a "Rear Admiraal", because of Tata Group B performance. =)

I nominate this for funniest post of 2016. and <WB> for funniest commentator.
