Nov-10-09  YouRang: It looks like Gelfand has defended accurately.
Nov-10-09  desiobu: Rf5 is not a serious threat because if Rxf3?? Rf8+
Nov-10-09  Chessmensch: After showing this as -.75 for about 10 moves, Fritz 12 now gives it a dead draw.
Nov-10-09  beenthere240: Crossbow is a wonderful term.
Nov-10-09  Ulhumbrus: <beenthere240: Crossbow is a wonderful term.> The black Rook does not however have to be on d5 for this to work.
Nov-10-09  jmboutiere: Rybka 3
after 63.Ra7 - 1.10
Nov-10-09  patcheck: e5, if not black plays his pawn f and i think it's draw

Lattas: Why do they continue? When Rh8 will be played, it is dead draw
Nov-10-09  whatthefat: Yeah, looks a definite draw now.
Nov-10-09  Chessmensch: Deep Fritz 10, which works more than twice as fast as Fritz 12 on my dual core machine, also gives a dead draw 0.00.
Nov-10-09  SetNoEscapeOn: <Lattas: Why do they continue? When Rh8 will be played, it is dead draw>

They are still playing because Kramnik is hungry- he is trying to win the tournament. If Anand's game had ended in a draw, it's entirely possible Kramnik wouldn't have played this out.

Nov-10-09  micahtuhy: I can't see a win for Kramnik here unless Boris blunders
Nov-10-09  Billy Vaughan: Why don't they just draw? Because Drawnik <refuses to draw>!

Because Black has nothing to lose by playing on - he has all the chances.

Nov-10-09  whatthefat: A very nice fighting game in any case. And a really good illustration of how tricky it can be to draw a theoretically drawn ending.
Nov-10-09  messachess: They don't call him "Irefusetoconcedethedrawnik" for nothing.

eternaloptimist: Well, they finally agreed to a draw. It looked like it was going to be a draw a good while back to me, but u can't really blame Kramnik for playing on since he was a ♙ up. He is clearly very hungry to win this trnt.. If he keeps this up, I might not ever call him Drawnik again!!!! :D
Nov-10-09  meth0dSNK: whens the next game anybody know

chessgames.com: By the way, it looks like we'll be covering the Carlsen-Anand game since Vishy tied for the lead and we have only featured him once. Sounds like quite a match-up! Hope to see you then.

Eyal: The live feed shows them still doing a lively post-mortem at the board (for about 20 minutes now), amazing that they have the energy... or maybe it's the other way around, and the really difficult thing would have been to tear themselves away quickly from this game.
