technical draw: This is a minor piece festival.
Nov-11-09  guilherme0: The game continued 47... Qg1+ 48.Ke2 Qg2+ 49.Kd1 c4 0-1

technical draw: Thanks <gullherm0> I was trying to figure that out.
Nov-11-09  japz12: huh? c4? queen takes queen!!! 47...Bc3 is the move! 47...Bc3 48.Nb1 Qf1#
Nov-11-09  Garech: Surely this is a Benoni? Great game from Ivanchuk anyway.

technical draw: <japz12> If 47..Bc3, white wins with 48.Qxh6 check and mate next.

  al wazir: 47...Qg1+ 48. Ke2 Qg2+ 49. Kd1 c4 50. Qe3 (50. bxc4 dxc4 51. Qe3 c3, etc.) c3 51. Nb1 Qf1+ 52. Qe1 Qxf3+ 53. Kc1 (53. Qe2 Qxg3) Bd4.
Nov-11-09  Hoozits: They were calling it a Benoni on chess fm this morning,Garech.

Eyal: As Mig Greengard was saying in that chess fm broadcast, "Benoni is really just a King's Indian with bigger losing chances"... Seriously though, the borderline between those two openings is rather fuzzy when Black plays e6 rather than e5. I suppose one might call what we have here both a Benoni and a KID Samisch.
Nov-11-09  Blunderdome: Chucky sure had great bishops in this one.
Nov-11-09  ycbaywtb: final position amazed me how strong the bishops were in ATTACK & DEFENSE/plus how Ivanchuk's Queen had gotten behind White's pawns is cute/am i the only one who feels like Moro is unlucky at the Tal Memorial?
Dec-19-11  Garech: One of my all-time favourite Ivanchuk games!

Oct-21-18  Inocencio: The power of two bishops is overwhelming. Ivanchuk is genius!
