Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-17-09  sterner: why not 21. Bg4+? isn't that winning instantly
Nov-17-09  beenthere240: I suspect that Carlsen was just following up on his 20. Rxe7 sac which he had probably calculated to win the queen while blowing open the position. In a regular game I imagine he would see that 21. Bg4+ is an instant killer since it forces black to block his escape square at d7.
Nov-24-09  Eisenheim: castling queenside 4 black looks like an invitation into the storm
Dec-25-09  notyetagm: <beenthere240: ... In a regular game I imagine he would see that 21. Bg4+ is an instant killer since it forces black to block his escape square at d7.>

Yes, 21 ♗f3-g4+! forces a killing <SELF-BLOCK> of the d7-flight square of the Black c8-king.

Dec-25-09  notyetagm: Annotated by Carlsen himself in the latest <New In Chess magazine, 2009/8> (http://www.newinchess.com/Shop/Prod...).
