Once again (as in games vs. Li Chao and Caruana from previous rounds) Gashimov's opponent fails to take advantage of a winning chance: 29.f3! to win a piece after the knight retreats by g5, or f4 first in case of 29...Ng5; possibly both Gashimov and Ponomariov thought that, following Black's 28th move, 29...Rxd5 should be good enough in such a case, but actually it isn't - 30.Nb4! Rc5 31.N2d3 (or 30...Qxc1 31.Qa7+ followed by Rxc1).
