Apr-17-11  Calli: If 36.Nd3 then Bd5 is mate in the middle for Maurian. He was now too strong for Rook odds.
Mar-07-21  paulmorphy1969: In the New Orleans Sunday Star 1866.01.21 has been added the month in which this party was played January 1858 published without the opponent's name see link: http://www.chessarch.com/excavation... ? a = 1 & source = New_Orleans_Sunday_Star & date = 1866.01.21- In Macon Shibut's book (year only) game 156 and Maroczy's book (Year and month) game 94 and Chessgame.com erroneously ends with 35 moves instead of 36, skipping the real move 35 f5+ Ke6.

MissScarlett: One of Morphy's 'fugitive' games, collected by Reichhelm, that appeared in <Bretanto's Chess Monthly>, vol.i n.10 (Feb 1882), p.524, identifying opponent as Maurian and date as January 1858. Score ends <34...Bc4 Resigns>.

jnpope: <<MissScarlett>: How do we know Maurian is the opponent?>

Given that both participants were still alive when Reichhelm published Maurian as the opponent in 1882, and neither lodged any complaint, I'm inclined to accept Maurian as the opponent even though the earliest source gives "Mr. N." (which could have easily been a typo on the part of the <Sunday Star>).
