Jun-06-12  PeaceRequiresAnarchy: White knew that black wanted to play 6...Be7 so he played 6.a4! threatening to win the queen and sure enough black fell for the trap!
Jun-15-12  screwdriver: wow! And if black plays his queen to b5, then we have knight c7 check forking the queen and king. Well done Mr. Philidor.
Nov-16-12  S A G A R: Excellent! Mind boggling!
Nov-16-12  brankat: Yes, Black's play was mind-boggling indeed :-)
Jun-27-13  whiteshark: It is perhaps not surprising that this artist who defined the Baroque should have a personal life that itself was, well, baroque.
Sep-27-14  Ke2: Beautiful trap

jnpope: Unlikely to be a Philidor game. It can be found in this data dump (2002 thread): Game dated 1990 in thread...

Jul-14-16  juanhernandez: simple game !!!
Apr-28-17  lentil: So the debut was a game in which Philidor was WHITE, so it's called the Philidor defence?!
May-12-17  josifek: lentil. Black just used opening named after Mr. Philidor. The name of the opening was already established.
Aug-31-20  MordimerChess: 31st of August 1995, 225 years ago François André Philidor passed away.

I'd like to honor his contribution to chess by analyzing this awesome trap. Check out the video analysis:
