Phony Benoni: Rose misses his chance for immortality: where could he have won a piece?

32...Qc4 would have done the trick.

Feb-28-11  zdigyigy: 32...Qc4 wins!! nice eye phony
Feb-28-11  Kinghunt: How could Rose have missed that? This is his only game in the database, so I can't say much about his playing strength, but if he nearly beats Capablanca he has to be fairly strong. 32...Qc4 is a move most 1400+ players would find fairly easily. It's a very simple fork of two loose pieces and there is simply no defense. Recognition of loose pieces, 2 ply calculation, game over.

GrahamClayton: According to <Dale Brandreth> in <The Unknown Capablanca>, Capablanca only played in two telegraph matches, as he did not like the slow pace of play. He turned up late for this game, played quickly and then embarked on a superficial attack, which Rose could have refuted with 32...Qc4, as mentioned by other kibitzers.
