  MissScarlett: <date correct is 11 11 1866>

The <Dubuque Chess Journal> of January 1876 gives no date for this game but as this and two other games follow after Morphy vs Maurian, 1866, which is dated November 11th, it's unclear if the intention was to indicate that all four games were played on the same day. That the <Chicago Tribune> and <Northern Tribune> later also give November 11th is no guarantee, as the <DCJ> may be their ultimate source. I think it best to give the date just as November.

Feb-14-21  realdumptrump: Has the source been updated in the PGN?

Feb-14-21  Atking: Thanks for historical information The game by itself is simply very impressive. Sure Black played mistakenly but no major one White starts with a knight handicap and 1-0

fredthebear: Black gets castled, and loses on material/resignation in 29 moves.

Here's the same players, same handicap, same opening, and Black fails to castle: Morphy vs Maurian, 1866
