Benzol: Black was winning here but he must have cursed at himself for letting White sacrifice at the end to get the draw.

Richard Taylor: <Benzol> Hi! Edward beat Peter with this same line in another tournament - it is Peter's opening (reply to 1 e4 etc) he always plays so it is easy to prepare against. The line (Ponomariov's Gambit) is not clear...last time he had more of a surprise factor.

Here Edward knew he was losing so he went from about move 26 for the Big Stalemate. When Stuart walked into it he was absolutely stunned and resigned and just walked out of the place. Smith roared with laughter as did some other malicious people!

Well "Nobody ever won a game by resigning".

The line is still interesting (Ponomariov's idea) and Edward intends to play it next time he plays Stuart!!

Keith Ward beat me withe Bastrikov but I misplayed the line I play (which Kasparov has played) - also Bruce Waston played it (the Bastrikov) so I was able to prepare against him and won my game (partly because of prep). He switched to the Caro as back up or as another opening.
