Kibitzer's Corner
May-07-11  GrahamClayton: 16.♘f7! is a lovely move - placing the knight en prise to three Black pieces, as well as being sacrificed on an empty square.

wwall: Blackburne commented that 7...Nf6 instead of 7...Qf6 was the correct reply.

9...Qg7 allows the Black king to be attacked. Perhaps better is 9...Kd8.

Instead of 13.Qh4, perhaps more brilliant would be 13.Rxf6 Qxf6 14.Nc3 (threatening 15 Nd5+, forking K and Q) 14...c6 15.Rf1 Qd6 16.Nd5+! cxd5 17.Nf7 Qc7 18.exd5 Qxc2 19.Qg5+ or 19.Qd5+ and mate in two more moves.

After Blackburne played 16.Nf7, his opponent said "What have you taken?"

Instead of 18...Nbd7?, Black has a little bit more resistance after 18...Kd8 19.Rxf6 Rxf6 20.Rxf6 Kc7.
