Shams: Black was giving up 600 rating points and it shows. I wonder if Nigel's tea even finished steeping before black stopped the clocks?

HeMateMe: Our man in Tailand. Plenty of extra time to get that tropical ice cream suit cleaned and pressed.

Shams: 2.Nc3 and 3.f4 looks like it gives white a favorable version of the KGD-- if so that would make me very happy. (Black can't even get in ...Bc5.) Still, there's gotta be a catch.

HeMateMe: ...perhaps an immediate d5 by black, to open the center?

Shams: <HeMateMe> Well, that's black's standard thrust against the Vienna gambit (see Helloween's post of a couple days ago here: Vienna (C25))

...but obviously he can't play it on move three, since it just loses a pawn (black doesn't have Nf6 in yet.) Even if he prepares it though he's a tempo off normal lines.

One hitch after 1.e4 d6 2.Nc3 is 2...c5 when 3.Nf3 e5 prevents white from going into normal open Sicilian lines. So 3.f4 is on the menu...well, how hard can the Grand Prix attack be?
